Max Verstappen’s success also comes at a price as his dominant season means he will have to pay more than a million euros for his super license to race in F1 in 2024.
The super license is a necessary evil for F1 drivers and it also comes with a hefty price tag. To be allowed to race in F1 in 2023, drivers must pay a basic amount of 10,400 euros and an additional 2,100 euros for each point they score in 2022 (Max Verstappen must pay a record amount for his F1 participation in 2023).
When we do the calculations for the 2024 F1 season, we see that Max Verstappen achieved 575 points during the current season. Max Verstappen therefore has to pay a record amount for his F1 super license: 10,400 euros basic amount and on top of that an additional 1,207,500 euros for the points achieved (575 x 2,100 euros). This brings the total amount to 1,217,900 euros to participate in Formula 1 in 2024.
In the run-up to the current season, Max Verstappen already expressed his dissatisfaction with the amounts that the FIA asks drivers to be allowed to race in Formula 1. “I find the amount absurd,” Verstappen told the Austrian channel Servus TV last February. . “I don’t think it’s right that we have to pay so much. That is not the case in other sports. And there are more and more races.”
However, Max Verstappen’s concerns can be called relative because Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko has already made it clear that he will assist.
“I’m afraid we have to pay that, if I remember our contract correctly,” the Austrian said earlier this year with a grimace on his face.
