During qualifying for the Abu Dhabi GP, Lewis Hamilton was killed in Q2. A bewildered Hamilton said over the on-board radio “that something was wrong with his car”. Hamilton hoped for a while that another driver’s lap time would be canceled, but in the end his qualifying was over.
“It was a challenging session for me,” said Hamilton after a disappointing and frustrating qualifying session at the Yas Marina Circuit. “I’ve been having problems with the car’s setup all weekend here in Abu Dhabi.”
“George managed to get the most out of the car with a fourth place. Our cars are set up in the same way, we have to understand what, on my side of the garage, is causing us to lack so much performance.”
“It will take a lot to make sure I don’t get into Q3 so we will have to analyze everything thoroughly and make sure we improve our position on Sunday.”
With just four points ahead of Ferrari, Mercedes faces an intense battle tomorrow to finish second in the constructors’ championship.
“The team here and at the factory deserve a good result in the last race of the season,” said Hamilton. “We will work hard as always and hopefully it will pay off and we will find improvements for Sunday.”
