During Q3, Lando Norris seemed to make it difficult for Max Verstappen, but a wild slide meant that Norris ultimately had to be satisfied with the fifth fastest time. A self-critical Lando Norris believes he should make fewer mistakes during qualifying, when it matters.
“If you make any mistake during qualifying when you are fighting for a good position, it is frustrating,” a disappointed Lando Norris looks back on qualifying. “But the thing is, I make so many mistakes on Saturdays. Any other lap was one of my best laps.”
“Q1 and Q2 were some of my best laps, my first lap in Q3 was very strong, there was just one little mistake.”
“I do not know what happened. I didn’t experience it once this weekend. It’s frustrating because I just do ‘shitty’ things on Saturdays.”
Lando Norris was then told that he might be too hard on himself, but the McLaren driver disagreed.
“Not at all. I fight for second place and finish fifth due to a stupid mistake. So no, I’m too soft on myself.”
Fine margins, as ever, in F1
