The current season of Ferrari and Charles Leclerc has not brought the success they hoped for. The aim was to win both titles, there was also regular display of impressive speed in qualifying and flashes of brilliance, but the season turned out to be a disappointment.
To be honest, it has been a disappointing season, says Leclerc. We expected this season to be able to fight for the championship. However, after the first race we already understood that it would be very difficult against Red Bull. They have made a huge step forward this year, especially in terms of race pace.
Unfortunately we didn’t take the same step as them, on the other hand I think we made quite a bit of progress throughout the season. That is positive and gives me confidence for the future. We still have a big gap to close compared to Red Bull, so we will do everything we can again during the winter break.
Especially in the second half of the season, it was clear that Ferrari had improved, even winning the race in Singapore with Carlos Sainz. To date, that is still the only race that Red Bull has not won this season.
Ferrari is currently third in the championship, but only four points behind Mercedes, with one race to go in Abu Dhabi this weekend.
Despite the small gap, Ferrari still faces a major challenge according to Leclerc.
We will have to do everything we can to fight them and beat them in the battle for the Constructors’ Championship. The motivation of everyone in the team is very high, the momentum is good. However, the big work still needs to be done on the track itself, we have to make sure we do everything perfectly to beat them, concludes Leclerc.
