Imagine this: Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in the same team. It may sound unrealistic, but recent discussions have shown that it could have been a possibility. Red Bull team boss Christian Horner confirmed that his team had talks with Lewis Hamilton earlier this year. Additionally, a collaboration between Hamilton and Ferrari was also explored. However, Hamilton ultimately extended his contract with Mercedes until the end of 2025. “Mercedes has supported me since I was thirteen… We still have a lot of work to do to get ourselves back to the front, but there is no place I would rather be,” Hamilton said after his contract extension.
Despite this, it appears that Hamilton also had discussions with other teams, including Red Bull and Ferrari. Horner revealed that there had been contact with Hamilton and that there was a question of interest in a potential move. While it was technically possible for Verstappen and Hamilton to be on the same team, Horner did not believe it would be a good idea. He expressed satisfaction with the current duo of Verstappen and Sergio Pérez.
It is also noted that Ferrari had serious conversations with Hamilton, but in the end, he remained loyal to Mercedes. Although Hamilton had a difficult season with Mercedes, he is currently third in the championship behind the Red Bull duo Verstappen and Pérez.
