The Toyota Yaris Cross is one of the most popular cars in the crowded compact crossover/SUV segment. Yet Toyota believes it is time for innovations. And that is partly due to the input of current owners.
It concerns a number of changes, the word ‘facelift’ does not come from the mouth Toyota. Think of it as an interim update. According to the Japanese, the adjustments ‘mainly took into account the purchasing considerations of customers’. In other words: the innovations arise from the criticism of current owners. Smart, because where can you find better user experiences? We list 7 changes.
Facelift or update, you will find it in our free, weekly newsletter!
1. New hybrid engine
Previously, the Toyota Yaris Cross was available in two flavors: petrol or hybrid. But from now on, the Yaris Cross can only be ordered as a hybrid. The 116 hp hybrid powertrain remains, but is joined by a new 132 hp hybrid engine. This version also offers more torque (185 instead of 141 Nm). In addition, you are half a second faster from 0 to 100 km/h (10.7 instead of 11.2 seconds).
2. Quieter than ever
Toyota says it has made the Yaris Cross a lot quieter. The engine noise in particular has been addressed, including additional sound insulation on the inside of the dashboard and the hood. Furthermore, thicker glass was chosen to minimize wind noise and driving noise.
3. More digital
The Toyota Yaris Cross keeps up with the times, as is evident from the new digital instruments that are standard, regardless of the version. The Active and First Edition get a 7-inch instrument cluster. For the Executive, GR Sport and Launch Edition it is 12.3 inches in size. The touchscreen for the multimedia is 9 or 10.5 inches, depending on the version.
4. Full app integration
With the MyToyota app you can control more and more functions of the car. From now on, a maximum of 5 users can use their smartphone as a digital car key. The climate control can also be started remotely and the hazard lights can be turned on. This way you can easily find your car again if you forget where you parked it.
5. Even safer as standard
The safety package called Toyota T-Mate has been further expanded. This now includes systems such as Pre-Collision System, Proactive Driving Assist, Emergency Driving Stop System, Safe Exit Assist, Rear Seat Reminder System, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Departure Assist.
6. Updates now available for OTA download
Software updates can now be carried out over-the-air (OTA) in the updated Toyota Yaris Cross. This saves a trip to the dealer.
7. New colors
‘Urban Khaki’ is a new exterior color available for the Launch edition. This is in combination with a different color for the roof and 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. The beautiful ‘Juniper Blue’ is now available on all versions.
When will the Toyota Yaris Cross come and what is the price?
The ‘new’ Toyota Yaris Cross is expected in the Netherlands in the second quarter of next year. Toyota has not yet revealed what the price will be. We expect that boarding will be possible for around 30 grand. This is now possible for 27 grand, but that is for the petrol version without hybrid technology and that will disappear in the long term. A hybrid Yaris Cross is currently available for just under 29,000 euros.
