During the Las Vegas GP, Lando Norris suddenly hit the wall with his McLaren. It was a strange crash and McLaren has now revealed the cause.

Lando Norris suddenly lost control of his McLaren F1 car and crashed into the wall on the right, after which he continued to slide at high speed with his badly damaged car until he came to a stop against the TecPro barriers. Norris was taken to the medical center at the circuit after which he was also transferred to hospital for additional checks.

McLaren said that Lando Norris has now been released from hospital and that he is doing well. McLaren has also provided clarity about the cause of the crash. There was speculation that something broke off Lando Norris’s F1 car, causing him to suddenly veer to the right, but according to McLaren, Lando Norris’ crash was caused by cold tires combined with a bump in the track surface.

“There’s a bump in that corner,” said McLaren team boss Andrea Stella. “You can also see that from all the sparks that come from under the cars.”

“I think Lando was surprised by the combination of that bump and the fact that he was on cold tires. Apart from that, we don’t see any problems with his car.”

Stella wants the problem with the bump to be solved: “If this remains a night race, we have to solve this because the tire temperature will remain cold and the tires will offer little grip. After all, it will remain the tricky corner that it is now.”
