According to a report by Izvestia, the iPhone remains the top revenue generator among all smartphone brands for retailers in Russia. Apple devices outperform other brands both in retail stores and online platforms. However, industry experts predict a significant shift in this landscape in the near future.
The MTC press service has stated that iPhone sales accounted for approximately 33% of overall smartphone revenue during the period from January to September 2023, similar to the same period in 2022. In the third quarter of 2023, Apple’s share of the monetary value in the smartphone market was 29%, surpassing Xiaomi (22%) and Samsung (17%). Another source reported that iPhones accounted for almost 40% of the monetary value of online smartphone sales in Russia, experiencing a marginal 2% decrease compared to the previous year. In the combined retail network of MegaFon and Yota, iPhone sales in September 2023 showed an 83% increase in units and more than a twofold increase in monetary terms compared to 2022.
In terms of quantity, iPhone sales in the first three quarters of 2023 declined from 11% to 9% due to the growing demand for Chinese smartphone brands. M.Video – Eldorado reported that smartphone sales in Russia reached approximately 24 million devices in the first ten months of 2023, a 25% increase compared to 2022. The total value of these devices sold amounted to 500 billion rubles.
However, industry experts anticipate that Apple’s market share in both unit sales and monetary value will gradually decline in the Russian market. This can be attributed to factors such as the high price point, limited popular features, and challenges associated with gadget repairs.
