Just a few days after Qualcomm unveiled the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Xiaomi announced the Xiaomi 14 series – the first phones to utilize the new flagship chipset. They will debut with HyperOS, the company’s next-generation software that will replace MIUI moving forward. This means that several significant “firsts” occurred on Wednesday this week when the two phones were launched in the Chinese market (the first flash sale sold out quickly).
Of course, these phones will also be available globally, although it will take a few months for that to happen. For now, let’s focus on the prices for China – the Xiaomi 14 starts at CNY 4,000 for an 8/256GB model, while the Xiaomi 14 Pro is priced at CNY 5,000 for the base model with a 12/256GB configuration.
Xiaomi 14 Pro
In this week’s poll, we want to know if the powerful chipset and cameras of the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro are tempting enough for you to consider buying one. The Xiaomi 14 series is the first to utilize the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and comes with HyperOS, Xiaomi’s next-generation software. The phones were recently launched in the Chinese market and will be available globally in a few months. The Xiaomi 14 starts at CNY 4,000, while the Xiaomi 14 Pro is priced at CNY 5,000.
The major differences between the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro lie in their screen size and battery capacity. The vanilla model features a 6.36″ panel and a 4,610mAh battery, while the Pro model boasts a 6.73″ screen and a 4,800mAh battery. Both models share the same hardware with triple 50MP cameras, but the Pro model has a variable aperture main camera (f/1.4-4.0) compared to the fixed aperture (f/1.6) on the vanilla Xiaomi 14.
The Xiaomi 14 Pro charges faster with 120W charging, resulting in a full charge in 18 minutes, while the Xiaomi 14 charges at a slower rate of 90W, taking 31 minutes for a full charge. Additionally, the Pro model has a special edition with a titanium frame and utilizes proprietary Xiaomi Longjing glass on the front and glass on the back, while the vanilla model has a polycarbonate back panel.
In comparison to other Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 phones, such as the Realme GT5 Pro and vivo X100 series, the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro stand out with their powerful cameras and flagship chipset. Other brands like Oppo, OnePlus, and Samsung are also expected to release new devices in the near future.
