The new Lexus LBX is making waves in the automotive industry for several reasons. Firstly, it is the smallest Lexus ever produced. In this article, we will highlight six key features that make the Lexus LBX an attractive option for European consumers.
1: Lexus LBX: Compact in Size
Measuring 4.19 meters in length, 1.82 meters in width, and 1.54 meters in height, the Lexus LBX takes the title as the smallest Lexus to date. It is 30 centimeters shorter than the previous smallest model, the Lexus UX, and even shorter than the discontinued Lexus CT 200h. While its 332-liter luggage compartment is slightly larger than the Lexus UX’s 320 liters, it falls behind competitors like the Audi Q2, which offers 405 liters of space. The Lexus LBX has a wheelbase of 2.58 meters.
2: Hybrid SUV Performance
While the Lexus LBX does not boast full electric capabilities, it offers a hybrid powertrain. The crossover is equipped with a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor, providing a combined system power of 136 horsepower and maximum torque of 185 Nm. Additionally, there is an option for a version with an additional electric motor on the rear axle, transforming the Lexus LBX into a four-wheel-drive vehicle. It is worth noting that a fully electric version has not been announced.
3: A More Refined Design
Gone are the days of the prominent spindle grille and sharp creases seen in many Lexus models. The Lexus LBX showcases a more understated grille and overall design, giving it a calmer aesthetic. While some may find this disappointing, as it blends in with other compact models on the market, it is a departure from the distinctive Lexus style. The rear of the LBX features a light bar and spelled-out brand name.
4: Shared Platform with Toyota Yaris Cross
The Lexus LBX is built on the GA-B platform, which is also used for the Toyota Yaris Cross. This platform promises precise steering, stable cornering, and high-quality comfort. Lexus is known for its emphasis on a smooth and refined driving experience. The LBX includes a balance shaft in its three-cylinder engine to minimize vibrations and unwanted noise.
5: Luxurious Interior
The interior of the Lexus LBX exudes luxury and sophistication, reminiscent of higher-end models. Elegant materials and a calm design make for a visually pleasing environment. The central display measures 9.8 inches, and physical control buttons are strategically placed for ease of use. The automatic transmission lever adds a robust feel to the interior.
6: Introducing the LBX: A Breakthrough for Lexus
The LBX stands for Lexus Breakthrough Crossover and symbolizes a new era for Lexus in Europe. Europe played a leading role in the development of the LBX, signifying the brand’s commitment to the region. With the increasing popularity of compact SUV models in Europe, Lexus aims to make the LBX one of its best-selling vehicles in the region.
Lexus LBX Price and Availability
The Lexus LBX is set to be released in early 2024. The starting price for the standard version is €35,995, making it slightly cheaper than the highly sought-after fully electric Volvo EX30. The price list for the LBX offers various versions, with prices ranging from €35,995 to €48,495 for the limited-edition Original Edition model, of which only 10 will be available in the Netherlands.
