Vivo has quietly announced the Y17s smartphone in Singapore. This low-end device comes with basic specs, and while we’re not sure if it will be released outside of Singapore, it probably will.
The vivo Y17s runs on a MediaTek Helio G85 chipset and features a 6.56-inch IPS LCD, 720p display with a 60Hz refresh rate. While this may not sound impressive, vivo claims that it offers 840 nits of peak brightness, making it suitable for outdoor use even on sunny days. There aren’t many memory variants to choose from, as there is only a 6GB/128GB option available. However, there is a MicroSD card slot for expandable storage.
In terms of camera, the device is equipped with a rear 50MP f/1.8 camera and a 2MP depth sensor. The selfie camera features an 8MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture.
The entire hardware is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery, which supports relatively slow 15W charging. It also runs Funtouch OS 13 on top of Android 13. Other notable features include IP54 certification against splashes and dust.
The device is currently available for purchase in Singapore for SGD 199 ($146) in Glitter Purple and Forest Green. It is expected to be released in other Asian countries as well, making Singapore its first stop.
