Carlos Sainz was of course very happy after the Singapore GP, after all he had won the race, the crowning achievement of months of hard work. According to Sainz, a meeting with his engineers during the summer helped him take an important step forward in terms of performance.
“In terms of understanding the car, the way of driving, we already had a better feeling before the summer break,” says Carlos Sainz about the progress he and Ferrari have made in recent months. “I sat with my engineers during the summer break and we said okay, what can we do to make a race weekend better, after all we clearly have a lot of speed, we did some things well but never fully managed it.”
“So let’s see what we can do to improve that and perform consistently in the second half of the season because the potential is clearly there this year.”
After the summer things indeed went better for Sainz because in Zandvoort he performed better than Charles Leclerc during both qualifying and the race. Pole and a podium place followed in Monza and pole again in Singapore, but also victory.
“Zandvoort was a very good weekend, Monza was almost perfect and I feel like it was perfect here in Singapore,” Sainz looks back on the race weekends after the summer break. “It has always paid off but now we have achieved everything during a race weekend and yes, I am very happy for my engineers, for the mechanics, for the team, for everyone.”
