During the end of the Singapore GP we saw a very exciting battle ‘for the win’ but according to McLaren driver Lando Norris it was mainly about trying to hold on to second place instead of trying to attack Carlos Sainz.
“I was protecting my second place,” Lando Norris reflected. “George had trouble overtaking me even though he was about five six tenths faster.”
“My chances of overtaking Carlos while I was only a tenth faster were non-existent, I had no chance, so I think Carlos played it smart. There was no need to attack him.”
“The more I attack him, the more vulnerable I would be to the cars behind me. I wouldn’t have been here (in the top three press conference) if I would have done it differently, those last laps were very stressful.”
“On the last lap I hit the wall when George also hit the wall. However, I hit the wall with the front, I panicked a bit, I damaged the steering column of the car, which was no longer completely in the right position. Fortunately, that’s just it.”
