McLaren driver Lando Norris was surprised by Red Bull’s poor performance but he has no illusions about the rest of the season.

Until last weekend, it was Red Bull that had won all races this season, but in Singapore they did not get further than fifth and eighth place. Neither driver even managed to qualify in the top ten and Lando Norris was surprised by Red Bull’s poor performance.

I don’t know what was going on this weekend, said Norris after the race. When I looked at Max’s onboard images from yesterday (Saturday) I had to laugh because I had never seen such a bad car.

It made Max laugh too, so we’ll see next weekend. I think they will be back at the top.

During the season there have been several teams that were able to challenge Red Bull the most. Norris also believes that the championship would be more exciting if Red Bull were not so much better than the rest.

“If it hadn’t been for Red Bull, I would have won two races already,” he said. “I think there have always been great fights.

“Sometimes it’s that ‘best of the rest package’. Now the ‘best of the rest’, I wouldn’t say it’s just us, I don’t think Aston are far behind and they were very close at the start of the season but they’ve dropped out. AlphaTauri was very fast this weekend but they just didn’t get it done when they needed to.”

“So I think it’s great. A lot of times when you don’t have the best team there, the best team always seems to dominate and take the show away from the rest. But if you take away Mercedes a few years ago and Red Bull now, I think the battles for the rest of the positions would always have been incredible and there would have been many different winners every race or season.”
