Geerts takes GP victory in Maggiora, Adamo the MX2 world title

Adamo started the penultimate Grand Prix with a 48-point lead over Liam Everts. If he wanted to win the world title for his own people, Adamo had to widen that gap to at least 60 points. And the Sicilan did that too. A third place (3+3 in heats) was more than enough. Also because Everts suffered a serious crash in the second series.

Just like Prado in the MXGP, regularity was the code word for Adamo. The Red Bull KTM rider – who is trained by Joël Smets – won ‘only’ two GPs and four series, but he remained injury-free and always grabbed the necessary World Cup points. “I can not believe it. It’s like I’m living in a dream,” Adamo shook his head. “But apparently it’s not a dream. I’m a goddamn world champion!”

Heavy fall Everts

Jago Geerts took his seventh (!) GP victory of the season in Maggiora. In the first heat the Kemea Yamaha rider still had to acknowledge his superiority in Längenfelder, but in the second heat the roles were reversed. The Balenaar – who missed four Grand Prix due to injuries – also jumped over Everts to second place in the world championship.

With one Grand Prix to go (next Sunday in Matterley Basin), Everts is third in the World Championship, with as many points as Längenfelder. The Lummen native had a serious crash at the end of the second series and had to abandon the fight. Although he still drove to the paddock under his own power, it remains to be seen how much damage Liam has sustained.
