According to Sergio Perez, his spin during Q2 was caused by an engine problem. If that had not happened, he said he would almost certainly have been able to advance to Q3.

“It was very difficult,” Perez told Sky Sports F1. “It’s difficult because we’ve made some changes here and there but nothing seems to change the balance of the car.”

“And then it got even worse because I couldn’t start my last attempt in Q2, the engine wasn’t giving enough power and suddenly it was hitting very hard.”

“Eventually I lost control of the car. It’s incredibly unfortunate. I think Q3 was possible.”

With eleventh and thirteenth places on the starting grid, things are not looking good for Red Bull. There seems a good chance that Red Bull’s dominant series of victories will come to an end. Asked whether the chances of victory in Singapore have now disappeared, Perez answers: “Yes, definitely. I think that if we score a reasonable number of points we can be satisfied.”
