Lance Stroll had a serious crash in the Aston Martin and Max Verstappen was surprisingly eliminated in Q2, resulting in the eleventh fastest time.Singapore is a night race and that always produces beautiful atmospheric images. At the same time, Singapore’s street circuit poses an enormous challenge for the drivers. The chance that someone will make a mistake is high and that is why we had to queue at the end of the pit lane before the start of Q1.At the end of the first qualifying section, the lap times dropped and many drivers improved their lap times. Suddenly, however, we saw Lance Stroll go off track heavily and crash.Of course we immediately got a red flag. Lance Stroll got out of his car relatively unscathed, but not much was left of his Aston Martin F1 car. A wheel flew off and his F1 car was largely reduced to scrap. Aston Martin’s mechanics will have to work hard next night to get his car ready for the race. The image below shows how severe the impact of Lance Stroll’s crash was. Fortunately for the Canadian, there were TecPro barriers that absorbed most of the impact. In Q2 we then received a major surprise. Both Red Bulls were eliminated. Sergio Perez made a spin and died with the fastest time in thirteenth. Max Verstappen’s frustration was evident when he got out of the car. Verstappen also shouted his frustration over the on-board radio. But it could be worse for Verstappen because he was investigated for several incidents during Q1 and Q2, which could potentially result in one or more grid penalties.During the first series of fast runs we saw Carlos Sainz drive to a provisional best time, followed by teammate Charles Leclerc. So Ferrari is currently at 1-2 and that would be a surprise because prior to the race weekend it was expected that Ferrari would perform less well in Singapore. However, an ultimate second fast run followed and we know from the previous sessions that the track gets faster towards the end of the session.During that last fast run, Carlos Sainz went even faster, but teammate Charles Leclerc was also fast on his way. Leclerc stranded a handful of thousandths behind his teammate. At the very end of Q3, George Russell seemed to disrupt Ferrari’s party, but in the end Russell had to settle for second, just like Leclerc, a handful of thousandths behind Carlos Sainz. With Carlos Sainz on pole, George Russell in the Mercedes and Charles Leclerc in third place, it promises to be an exciting race through the streets of Singapore. We will also have to wait and see whether Max Verstappen can drive a strong catch-up race and finally break Red Bull’s winning streak this season.More F1 news:- “Felipe Massa’s lawsuit could set a precedent for Lewis Hamilton’s lost world title in 2021”- Mercedes motorsport boss: “The Wikipedia comment about Max Verstappen may not have been the most intelligent”- “Michael Schumacher should also hand in one of his F1 titles”- Sebastian Vettel: “I don’t rule out an F1 comeback”- Good friend about Michael Schumacher: “It doesn’t look good, it’s hopeless”- Overview: Which F1 pilots are already guaranteed a race seat for the 2024 F1 season?
