During the second practice session for the Singapore GP, Mercedes drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton set the third and fifth fastest times respectively. Hamilton and Russell looked back on their Friday with great satisfaction and are looking forward to the rest of the race weekend.
“It was a great day here in Singapore,” said a very enthusiastic Lewis Hamilton after the second practice session. “The first practice session was very solid. We weren’t quite where we wanted to be but it wasn’t too bad. The second practice session was definitely our best second practice session this year.”
“It’s nice to end Friday with a positive feeling. I think we have a good foundation to build on for the rest of the weekend. This is the best feeling Friday so far this year.”
“I hope we continue to do a good job from Friday to Saturday and that we are even better on Saturday as usual.”
Teammate George Russell also agreed with Hamilton and spoke of a very positive day. During the second practice session, Russell was third fastest, just 0.235 seconds behind Carlos Sainz who set the fastest time.
“It was a very positive Friday for us overall,” Russell said. “The car feels very good on this track.”
“The car clearly performed better in the second practice session, when temperatures were lower, but the car also performed quite well in the slightly less representative conditions of the first practice session.”
“The lap times were very close together and with different cars. Ferrari looked fast, especially over one fast lap. The performance of some competitors over the long runs was also fast but we are optimistic for the rest of the race weekend.”
