According to Fernando Alonso, Red Bull has not yet shown its real speed in Singapore and will do so when it really matters. Despite a seventh and eighth fastest time for Perez and Verstappen, the Red Bulls will be at the front later during the race weekend, according to Alonso.

On paper, the Singapore street circuit should suit the Ferrari less well and the Red Bull F1 car better, but we still saw the two Ferraris at the top during both practice sessions on Friday. Red Bull was in midfield and according to team boss Christian Horner, his team still had work to do.

“You can see that Ferrari is looking strong, McLaren and Mercedes are there too, you can see that everything is very close together this weekend,” said Horner.

Some idiots claim that Red Bull will be affected by the FIA’s stricter controls on flexible wings that will come into effect from this race weekend, but Alonso believes that Red Bull will be there again during qualifying and the race.

“I think Friday is mainly about gaining confidence in the car and the track,” said Alonso. “Ferrari is again out of our reach, just like in Monza they are a little too fast for us. Red Bull will be fast when it counts. Everyone is close together, you can be fifth or sixth but still not get into Q3.”

“You can be twelfth because you lose two tenths, there are a lot of cars that are very close to each other. It will be a very close battle and you will have to drive a perfect lap in Q2 and Q3.”
