Naturally, Carlos Sainz was happy that he managed to take pole position with Ferrari. At the same time, he knows that eventual victory is the ultimate goal and in that respect George Russell is a threat.
With an extra set of medium tires on hand, George Russell indeed poses a threat to Carlos Sainz because the medium tire is theoretically the better tire for the race.
“It’s a question mark because you can’t learn much here on Friday and Mercedes is usually faster than us during the race,” said Sainz. “They have a bit of an alternative strategy in terms of tires and we will have to keep an eye on that. However, I will focus on my own race, try to do a good first stint and on the hard tire compound we can still try to win.”
“It is the story of the year that on some circuits we have a good car and in certain conditions with one fast lap and short apexes and quick changes of direction we are very good.”
“We know our weak point is race speed, so we always pay the price, but the team has done very well in recent weekends in terms of understanding the package and the car. We are definitely making progress.”
