rewrite this content and keep HTML tags The electric Volvo EX30 is already one of the most exciting models of 2024. We still have to wait more than six months. In the meantime, we have listed the price, versions, delivery times and competition. The electric one Volvo EX30 doesn’t look like a speed monster. Yet Volvo’s newest and smallest SUV accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h faster than the 405 hp Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered from 2019, which was previously the fastest Volvo. It only takes 4.4 seconds to complete the 0-100, but the EX30 with twin engine completes this job in just 3.6 seconds. The EX30 also has more power, namely 428 hp. Actually quite bizarre; the S60 Polestar Engineered was the absolute top model of the series, while the EX30 is Volvo’s new entry-level model with a design that is anything but aggressive. “According to Volvo CEO Jim Rowan, not everyone needs a long range.” Price Volvo EX30 While you almost never encounter the S60 Polestar Engineered on the road, you don’t need a crystal ball to predict that the EX30 will soon be parked on every street corner. Because a compact electric SUV from Volvo with a range of almost 350 kilometers and a price from 36,795 euros must be a success. Even in Belgium you pay more, where the Volvo EX30 costs at least 38,990 euros. That competitive price of almost 37,000 euros does not apply to the version with twin engine, which is now the fastest Volvo ever. For that amount, the Volvo dealer will hand you the EX30 with one electric motor (on the rear wheels) and 272 hp. Its battery has a capacity of 51 kWh (usable: 49 kWh), which means you can travel 344 kilometers on a full battery. Not very far, but according to Volvo CEO Jim Rowan, this is a conscious choice, because not everyone needs a large range. Range Volvo EX30 If you want more range, it is better to buy the single motor extended range. It is equipped with a larger battery of 69 kWh (usable: 64 kWh) and has a range of 480 kilometers. You have to dig a little deeper into your pockets for that. It costs at least 41,495 euros, but that is still cheaper than Volvo’s other electric SUV, the Volvo XC40 Electric (price from 44,830 euros). Furthermore, you get 1400 kg towing capacity instead of 1000 kg. Both versions of the Volvo EX30 charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 26 minutes. To make that possible, the Extended Range has a maximum charging power of 153 kW, while the basic version peaks at 134 kW. So you have to wait a while, but then you can drive much further with the Extended Range. Both Volvos have an 11 kW on-board charger, for charging at home or in the neighborhood. But only those of the Extended Range can be upgraded to 22 kW. This halves the charging time from 8 hours to 4 hours. The Single Motor requires 6 hours. “The Extended Range has a charging capacity of 153 kW. The basic version peaks at 134 kW.” Volvo EX30 competitors With a length of 4.23 meters, the EX30 belongs in the B segment and is practically the same size as the electric Hyundai Konaof Jeep Avenger (price: 38,500 euros) and the new Fiat 600e. Also consider the size of the Renault Captur and Skoda Kamiq. At 2.65 meters, the wheelbase is about standard for compact crossovers, so don’t expect loads of legroom in the back. During the unveiling we were able to take a seat in the back seat and indeed: you soon sit with your knees against the backrest of the front seat. In addition, the seat is on the short side, which means you lack support for your thighs. The headroom, on the other hand, is fine. An SUV for families with small children. The trunk is 318 liters small, but fortunately you can also store some stuff under the hood (frunk). Hey, no glove box? The competitive starting price has to come from somewhere and the interior has been kept as minimalist as possible. The fewer deviations, keys, patterns and design features, the cheaper it is to produce. As a driver, you can operate the front and rear electric windows with the same buttons. Moreover, they are not located on the door armrest, which is the best place, but together on the center console, because this is cheaper to make. There is no instrumentation. You can see how fast you are driving on the centrally mounted 12.3-inch multimedia screen, just like with Tesla. So you have to look a little diagonally for that. In the EX30, the glove compartment is located below the central display, so that you have easier access to it as a driver. That is good for safety, but the fact that you can only open it with a touch button on the display is a bit cumbersome. Nice feeling The aluminum door handles look beautiful and give a feeling of luxury, just like the often beautiful materials that Volvo uses. It’s also a nice feeling that you never unseat a cyclist as soon as you open a door, because a new safety system prevents that. Every version of the EX30 is supplied with an extensive package of driver assistance systems. Delivery time Volvo EX30 The Volvo EX30 can already be ordered. Production will start later this year and the first customers will receive their cars in early 2024. Let that be February or March, then we are currently talking about a Volvo EX30 delivery time of 6 to 7 months.
