The update policy for Chromebooks was already good, but Google is now adding two years of additional updates. This means that every Chromebook will soon receive updates for no less than 10 years.

Chromebooks Update Policy Improved Again

Chromebooks come in all shapes, sizes, and price ranges, but they all have one thing in common: they run on ChromeOS and Google provides the updates. Starting next year, Google will roll out a better update policy for these handy devices. Currently, updates for Chromebooks have been rolling out for eight years, but now they will be available for even longer.

If you have a Chromebook from 2021 or later, you will automatically receive longer updates. These will be rolled out every four weeks for a period of ten years, according to the manufacturer.

If you have an older Chromebook, you can activate the longer update policy after you receive the last official update. The updates include security patches to fix any possible leaks.

Google itself states that it is working with component manufacturers for each individual Chromebook to prepare the updates.

More About ChromeOS

With a Chromebook, you often work in the cloud, which is different from a Windows or macOS computer. The operating system is therefore easy to use and does not require very powerful hardware to run smoothly. With Chrome OS, you can use all kinds of apps, play games, or use services such as Netflix or YouTube.

Want to know more? Check out our comprehensive theme page about ChromeOS. You can choose from small and light Chromebooks with not too powerful hardware, but you can also opt for variants with a separate video card or touch-sensitive screen.
