Sony has released a major software update for PlayStation 5. It brings several noteworthy improvements and new features, some of which were in beta testing for quite some time. The team has expanded PS5 Remote Play support to Android TV 12 OS or higher devices, added new voice command options, and improved the PlayStation companion app. Here is a detailed look at all the major announcements related to the update.
How to Stream PS5 Games on Android TV?
The biggest change coming with the latest PlayStation 5 update is the ability to stream PS5 games on Android TV. This is possible through the PS Remote Play app, which already supports PCs, Macs, and Android/iOS smartphones and tablets. It also means this is not cloud-based streaming, and you will need to have a PlayStation 5 to utilize this new feature.
Sony says PS5 Remote Play support is now available for Android TV OS 12 or higher. This suggests it should work with any device running the compatible software version, although the official announcement mentions only two devices as verified devices. These include Chromecast with Google TV (4K) and Sony BRAVIA XR A95L smart TV. It has referred to the devices as “so far,” which means we may see more verified devices added in the future.
To stream PS5 games on your Android TV, you will need to download and install the PS5 Remote Play app on a compatible device. The next step is to log in using the same account as the one on your PlayStation 5 console. Sony recommends an internet speed of at least 5Mbps for the streaming to work, but for a better experience, it recommends at least a 15Mbps internet speed.
Sony has also announced a few improvements to the PlayStation companion app, available for Android and iOS. It will now let users check the preview of someone’s Screen Share before joining the party. Users can now react to messages with emojis, just like they can on the console.
The team has added new voice commands for PlayStation 5: “Hey PlayStation, help” and “Hey PlayStation, what’s new?” The first command will help you with support resources, and the second one will show you information related to new features and PlayStation Plus monthly games. These voice commands are currently limited to users in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The latest software update for PlayStation 5 has started rolling out globally. It should arrive on your console soon if it hasn’t already. You can check for the update manually by visiting Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings.
