Android Auto and Android Automotive are receiving a variety of new apps. Soon, you will be able to stream content via Amazon Prime Video or participate in meetings through Zoom. Read more about how it works here.
More Apps for Android Auto(motive)
Android Auto and Android Automotive allow you to utilize useful Android functions in your car. You can easily ask the Google Assistant for assistance, navigate with Google Maps, or listen to your favorite music and podcasts on Spotify, Deezer, or YouTube Music.
However, the range of Android Auto apps is limited. This is logical because not many apps can be used while driving without causing distractions. Google is now expanding its range of Android Auto apps, including apps for online meetings, weather forecasts, and entertainment.
These Apps are Coming to Your Car
We will start with Zoom and WebEx. These apps specialize in online video meetings on your smartphone, tablet, or laptop and are now also available for Android Auto and Android Automotive. This means you can conveniently attend work meetings while driving. You can quickly join ongoing meetings via the screen in your car. Communication will be strictly audio-based, so you cannot use your smartphone’s camera.
The weather app ‘The Weather Channel’ is also coming to Android Automotive. This will allow you to check the weather at your destination and receive updates while driving towards rain or thunderstorms.
Once parked, you can also access apps for relaxation in cars with Android Automotive. You can stream movies and TV series through Amazon Prime Video or browse the internet using Vivaldi. These functions do not work while driving, so you won’t be distracted, but they will work during a stopover or while charging.
More About Android Automotive
Although Android Auto and Android Automotive may sound similar, they are two different things. Android Auto uses your smartphone to display apps on your car’s screen, while Android Automotive operates independently. Car brands that offer Android Automotive (Google built-in) include Polestar, Volvo, and Renault.
