As part of the traditional September event, Apple has unveiled the new generation of iPhone. In the 15-series models, the company has completely abandoned the old design with a “bang” cutout, but apart from that, the update is fairly iterative.
Like last year, customers can choose between the base 6.1-inch iPhone 15 and the larger 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus. Both models have received an updated cutout for the front camera and Face ID sensors – the Dynamic Island, which was introduced in last year’s iPhone 14 Pro.
The smartphones use the same Super Retina XDR OLED screen, but with increased brightness support – up to 1600 nits when displaying HDR content and up to 2000 nits in direct sunlight. As for the hardware, Apple has once again decided to equip the base models of the iPhone with last year’s processor, equipping them with an A16 Bionic chip with a six-core CPU and a five-core GPU.
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have received a new 48-megapixel main camera, similar to the one found in the iPhone 14 Pro. It works based on the principle of combining adjacent pixels to increase light sensitivity and improve the overall quality of photos and videos. Additionally, this sensor allows for up to 2x zoom without losing quality in both photos and 4K videos. Another new feature of the camera is automatic portrait mode, and in finished portrait shots, users can change the focus point.
Another change is the abandonment of the Lightning connector in favor of the universal USB Type-C. Moreover, the new iPhone 15 series supports reverse charging and can charge AirPods. There is also second-generation Qi wireless magnetic charging.
Among the minor changes, it is worth noting a slightly modified body shape with rounded edges and a second-generation UWB chip with an increased range for devices to detect each other.
As before, the price of the iPhone 15 starts at $799, and the Plus version will cost from $899.
