Oleksandr Bondarev has been included by Williams in its ‘Driver Academy’ for young racing talents. Bondarev is the sixth driver to be included in the ‘Driver Academy’.
Bondarev is a 14-year-old racing talent from Ukraine. Earlier this year he was crowned ‘CIK-FIA European Karting Champion’, he is the first driver from his country to succeed in this. It is striking that Bondarev broke through last year, but also literally broke his leg when a rival ran over his leg. Thanks to a successful operation, Bondarev’s leg was saved and this year he drove very impressively and managed to become European karting champion.
“I am so happy to be joining the Williams Racing Driver Academy,” said Bondarev. “Williams Racing is certainly one of the most iconic teams in motorsport, some of the best racing drivers have driven for the team and it is an honor to be part of that history.”
“Since I was five years old, when I started karting, I dreamed of F1. Of course, I still have a long way to go, but this is a huge step for me. I always knew that being part of an F1 young driver program was crucial and I will work hard to thank James Vowles and Sven Smeets for the trust and belief they have in me.”
