Apple had been releasing three iPhone models for a long time, but that changed when it introduced a new iPhone Mini variant in 2020. The iPhone 12 Mini catered to buyers interested in a compact iPhone but did not want to go for the iPhone SE. However, in a surprising move, the model was replaced with the iPhone 14 Plus last year. Now, fresh speculations suggest that the upcoming iPhone 15 series will mark the end of the iPhone Mini series.
iPhone 13 Mini Stock Running Low, Could be Discontinued This Week
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman posted on X that Apple has low stock of the iPhone 13 Mini, according to information received from retail sources. This post has led to speculations that Apple could officially discontinue the iPhone Mini series after tomorrow’s iPhone 15 series launch.
If true, it would not be a shocking decision from the company, as most tech enthusiasts must have anticipated this move. This is because, even though people hoped there was enough demand for a compact iPhone, its sales numbers worldwide showed that it was more of a niche product. This is the reason why the iPhone Mini series never registered significant sales figures for the Cupertino-based tech giant to continue producing it.
Apple launched the iPhone 12 Mini in 2020 as an iPhone with a smaller 5.4-inch display but with a design and specifications similar to the contemporary iPhone. Even though it failed to attract buyers in large numbers, the company released a successor model, the iPhone 13 Mini, the following year, which had a similar story.
This led to Apple discontinuing the Mini model last year and replacing it with the iPhone 14 Plus, which features a 6.7-inch display. The iPhone 13 Mini is the only Mini model that the company officially sells through its website and offline stores. It is available in 128GB for Rs 64,900, 256GB for Rs 74,900, and 512GB for Rs 94,900. These are Apple’s prices, and you can get it for cheaper at third-party online and offline sellers.
Apple’s next product event is set for September 12, which is tomorrow. It is expected to announce the iPhone 15 series and new Apple Watch models. This will be the first time we will see an iPhone with a USB Type-C port, as the company is ready to bid farewell to the iconic Lightning port. The iPhone 15 Pro models are expected to have a 128GB base model, despite the price hike.
It may also be the first time we will see Made in India iPhone models go on sale at the same time as the Chinese units. Apple is reportedly producing iPhone 15 models locally in India at Foxconn’s facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.
