Huawei has launched a new foldable smartphone, the Mate X5, in China, following the previous release of the Mate X3 in April. The Mate X5 shares a similar design and features with its predecessor but also introduces some differences. Notably, Huawei has incorporated a new processor, increased RAM capacity, and a larger battery in this latest iteration.
Huawei Mate X5 Price and Availability
The Huawei Mate X5 offers two RAM options: 12GB and 16GB, both paired with 512GB of onboard storage. Additionally, there is a Collector’s Edition variant of the Mate X5 that boasts 16GB RAM and offers a choice between 512GB and 1TB storage capacities.
Pricing details for the Mate X5 have not yet been revealed by Huawei. However, interested customers in China can pre-book the device via VMall by paying CNY 1,000 (approximately Rs 11,386). The device is expected to go on sale starting from September 15. It comes in various color options, including Feather White, Feather Black, Feather Gold, Phantom Purple, and Green Mountain Dai. Information regarding its global availability has not been disclosed at this time.
Huawei Mate X5 Specifications and Features
The Huawei Mate X5 features a folding design that is reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. It sports a 7.85-inch OLED primary display with a resolution of 2496 x 2224 pixels and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The panel supports a touch sampling rate of up to 240Hz, high-frequency PWM dimming of 1440Hz, and a P3 wide color gamut.
The foldable device also includes a 6.4-inch cover display with a resolution of 2504 x 1080 pixels. This display is an LTPO OLED panel with an adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz, a touch sampling rate of up to 300Hz, and high-frequency PWM dimming of 1440Hz. The display is protected by Kunlun Glass, while the Collector’s Edition offers Basalt tempered Kunlun Glass protection.
Huawei has not disclosed specific details about the Mate X5’s processor but it is expected to feature the Kirin 9000s chipset, which was also present in the Mate X3. The Mate X3 was initially launched with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. The Mate X5 offers multiple configurations with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. These configurations include 12GB/512GB, 16GB/512GB, 16GB/512GB, and 16GB/1TB.
On the back, the Mate X5 is equipped with a triple camera module, highlighted by a 50MP sensor with an aperture of f/1.8. The other two cameras in the module consist of a 13MP ultra-wide-angle sensor with an aperture of f/2.2, and a 12MP periscope telephoto sensor with an aperture of f/3.4 and optical image stabilization. The module supports up to 5X optical zoom and up to 50X digital zoom. The front camera of the phone is an 8MP sensor with an aperture of f/2.4 and supports 4K video recording.
The Mate X5 is powered by a 5,060mAh battery, which supports 66W wired fast charging. It also supports 50W wireless fast charging and 7.5W reverse wireless charging. The phone runs on HarmonyOS 4.0 as the operating system. Other features include an IPX8 rating for water resistance, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.2, a USB Type-C port, NFC, and a fingerprint scanner.
