We are just a few hours away from the Apple launch event that will take place on September 12. There have been numerous leaks and reports about what to expect from the company at the event. The majority of these leaks have been about the iPhone 15 series, but it will not be the only center of attention. Apple will also introduce new Apple Watch models with a few upgrades. These upgrades and changes have now surfaced in a leak ahead of the release.
Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2: What to Expect?
Apple’s portfolio of smartwatches will receive a refresh tomorrow in the form of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. These will be direct successors to last year’s Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra, respectively. The new smartwatches are expected to remain mostly the same but will have a few changes here and there, according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg.
The biggest difference will be the introduction of a new chip with a faster processor for both the new Apple Watch models. There will be a new U2 chip, which is finally getting an upgrade since the U1 launch in 2019. Apple has been using the same chip for all Apple Watch models since then.
The new chip is expected to bring improvements to the Find My functionality. It should provide more accurate location tracking while being more power efficient at the same time. There are rumors that the new iPhone 15 models will also feature the new ultra-wideband chip.
Both the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 are further expected to receive a number of internal component upgrades, including sensors. These are specifically rumored to feature an improved heart-rate sensor with better accuracy. Apple will likely discuss these changes in detail during the keynote.
Apple is not expected to make any changes to the size options. It means the Apple Watch Series 9 will have the same 41mm and 45mm sizes. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 will also stick to the 49mm size seen with the first-generation release. However, it is expected to offer a new all-Black color version called Titanium Black. The Series 9 is said to come in a new Pink color.
Both new smartwatches are further reported to feature more recycled materials than before. It seems like we will have the same display sizes as well. There are speculations that Apple may discontinue some of the leather watch bands, choosing instead to switch to a woven composite fabric with the new models.
