Next week, Apple will unveil the next generation of iPhones, but for now, things are relatively quiet. As we approach the end of 2023, makers and retailers are starting to consider their old inventory and what they can do with it. However, we have found some deals on very recent devices too.
In the USA, Amazon is offering limited time deals on Samsung’s latest foldables. The Galaxy Z Fold5 starts at $1,500 for the 256GB model, which is $300 below the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP). For more deals on the Z Fold5, check out our post on Samsung’s fall sale. There’s also the Galaxy Z Flip5, which now starts at well below $1,000. In fact, it costs about the same as an S23+ for the 256GB version in both cases.
If you’re not interested in foldables, let’s take a look at the Galaxy S series. The Galaxy S23 Ultra starts at $1,000, a price it has held for a while. But you can get last year’s model, the S22 Ultra, and save $150. Keep in mind that by choosing the S22 Ultra, you will miss out on the superior Snapdragon 8 chipset (Gen 2 vs. Gen 1) and the 200MP camera (the 2022 model came with a 108MP camera).
Then there is the Galaxy S23+/S22+ pairing. Considering that they cost the same, it’s pretty clear which one you should get. However, you could also go with the S22 Ultra over the S23+ for just $50 more. In this case, the camera advantage goes in favor of the older phone.
The final pairing to consider is the Galaxy S23 and S22. The 2022 model is cheaper, especially since it comes with double the storage. Don’t forget that the Galaxy S23 series is also part of the fall sale, so make sure you don’t miss out on those offers.
That’s enough about Samsung deals. Let’s take a look at an entry-level device next, the TCL 40 XL. This phone is more suitable for parents with its 6.75″ HD+ display (90Hz) and low-end Helio G37 chipset. On the plus side, it has a larger 5,000mAh battery (18W charging), a 3.5mm headphone jack, stereo speakers, and a microSD slot. We recommend going for the 6/256GB model as it offers a lot more memory for just $25 more.
With school starting back up, you might be in need of a new laptop or tablet, as so much of the learning process has moved online. The original MacBook Air (with M1) is available for $750. While there have been rumors of Apple wanting to build a Chromebook competitor, for now, this is the cheapest new laptop they offer. An iPad 10.2 can handle many tasks as well, although it is limited without a keyboard add-on, which costs an additional $133.
Last week, we mentioned the Sony LinkBuds, niche earbuds with a hole in them to ensure you can always hear the world around you. This offer is still available, but for the same $128 price tag, you can now get the LinkBuds S, which have a more traditional TWS design (no hole) and superior active noise cancellation (ANC).
Next up, we have a selection of Sony over-ear headphones. The WH-XB910N are a great choice for ANC headphones, with multi-point connectivity and up to 30 hours of battery life. They also feature fast charging, where 10 minutes of charge gives you 4.5 hours of battery life. The older Sony WH-1000XM4 offer better sound quality, with the XB910N being particularly bass-heavy. The XM4 headphones perform better in the mids and highs and also support 360 Reality Audio and superior ANC. The Sony WH-1000XM5 are a higher-priced option, but they don’t necessarily offer better quality. They underwent a major redesign that unfortunately made them less comfortable, and the new ANC system has its ups and downs compared to the XM4.
While smartphone gaming has surpassed PC and console gaming in popularity, some titles are still not available on Android and iOS. The Logitech G Cloud is a device optimized for streaming, supporting Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now. It runs on Android, so you can play some games natively. However, the Snapdragon 720G chipset is not particularly fast. Logitech focused more on providing a high-quality 7″ 1080p display and good controls. If you prefer local gaming, the Asus ROG Ally is one of the most powerful handhelds you can buy. It is more expensive than the G Cloud and the Steam Deck, but it boasts a 120Hz display and a Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU.
Now let’s take a look at the UK. The Honor Magic5 Pro is one of the best camera phones of 2023, featuring a triple 50MP camera setup. This includes a large 1/1.12″ main sensor, a 3.5x periscope lens, and a 122° ultra-wide module. The 12MP selfie camera with a wide 100° lens is also impressive. The phone is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and a huge 6.81″ 120Hz LTPO display, making it one of the best options available. Additionally, it has a fast charging 5,100mAh battery (66W wired, 50W wireless charging).
Xiaomi will be unveiling the 13T series at the end of this month, but the 12T series is still worth considering, especially with the current discounts. The Xiaomi 12T Pro features a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and a 200MP main camera with a large 1/1.22″ sensor and OIS. It also has a high-quality 6.67″ 120Hz display with a resolution of 1,220 x 2,712 pixels (12-bit panel with Dolby Vision). The phone is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 120W wired charging. On the other hand, the Xiaomi 12T is cheaper as it is equipped with a Dimensity 8100-Ultra chipset and a 108MP main camera (1/1.67″ sensor with OIS). However, it has the same display and the same 5,000mAh battery with 120W charging. Keep in mind that the Xiaomi 12T does not have the IP53 dust and water resistance rating that the Pro version features.
Another option to consider is the Xiaomi 12 Lite. This phone is even more affordable and features a similar 108MP main camera with a 1/1.52″ sensor (without OIS). It is equipped with the comparable Snapdragon 778G chipset and a slightly lower resolution 6.55″ display. Nevertheless, it is still a 12-bit Dolby Vision panel with a 120Hz AMOLED screen. The battery is smaller and slower at 4,300mAh with 67W charging, but the endurance rating is almost the same (100 hours for the Lite, 104 hours for the 12T).
If you’re looking for a budget option, consider the Redmi Note 12 (4G version). It runs on the Snapdragon 685 chipset and has a 5,000mAh battery with 33W charging. The phone features a 6.67″ 120Hz AMOLED display with an 8-bit color depth, a 50MP main camera with a small 1/2.76″ sensor, and an 8MP 120° ultra-wide lens. Unlike the 12T and 12 Lite, this model has expandable storage and a microSD slot, as well as an IP53 rating for dust and water resistance.
Moving on to Germany, if you’re a fan of leather and decorative stitching, you might enjoy the Realme 11 Pro and Pro+. The Realme 11 Pro+ is the better option, featuring a 200MP main camera with OIS, an 8MP 112° ultra-wide lens, and a 32MP selfie camera. It also has a 5,000mAh battery with 100W charging support. The Realme 11 Pro, on the other hand, has the same 6.7″ 120Hz AMOLED (10-bit) display and the same Dimensity 7050 chipset. However, it only has a 100MP main camera with OIS, no ultra-wide lens, and a lower-resolution 16MP selfie camera. The charging speeds are also slower compared to the Pro+, with the Pro reaching 42% in 15 minutes and taking 47 minutes to fully charge, while the Pro+ reaches 63% in 15 minutes and takes 28 minutes for a full charge.
In addition to these options, there are other phones to consider as well. Take a look at the content and see if any of the mentioned devices catch your interest.
