Like the Emira, the Lotus Emeya has little to do with the old values of the British sports car brand. With 905 hp and a range of 600 km, the heavy super sedan will compete with the Porsche Taycan.
Feng Qingfeng, de Chinese CEO van Lotus“By combining our rich heritage with intelligent performance and the latest advanced technologies, we are pushing the boundaries of how a luxury electric car should look and drive.” The rich heritage, my nose. It seems like they put Lotus founder Colin Chapman’s words through Google Translate traffic: “Simplify, then add weight”, instead of lightness.
But if we cut through the marketing talk, we do understand Lotus. When light and spartan sports cars were still being built, Lotus was certainly not doing well financially. To survive, everything has to change. And so the brand is now electric and no longer purist, and the Chinese of Geely are the boss in Hethel.

Faster than a charging station
The Lorus Emeya is an electric gran turismo, which must compete with the Porsche Taycan and the Audi E-Tron GT. We know the technique from the Lotus Eletre: an electric motor that is good for 905 hp and almost 1000 Nm of torque ensures blazing performance. The sprint to 100 km/h takes less than 3 seconds and the top speed is over 250 km/h.
The Emeya is at least as fast at the charging station: fast charging is possible with no less than 350 kW, so that the already huge 102 kWh battery has a driving range of 150 kilometers after five minutes of charging. Charging from 10 to 80 percent is done in fifteen minutes. If the fast chargers can handle this violence, of course … In that case, the Lotus driver with satanic pleasure gives the driver of a Porsche Taycan a check. The German electric sports car achieves ‘only’ 270 kW.

Estimated price Lotus Emeya (2024)
Had Colin Chapman been alive, he wouldn’t have believed his eyes inside the Emeya either. There is room for four people and they bathe in the luxury of alcantara and nappa leather. Lotus offers buyers an unparalleled music experience, including 3D surround sound.
The Emeya will be on the market in 2024, we expect it to cost at least 100,000 euros.
