At Mercedes, after a ‘form dip’ in the past two races, they expect improvement during the next race in Singapore. According to Andrew Shovlin, the characteristics of the street circuit better suit the Mercedes F1 car.
After a disappointing race weekend in Zandvoort, Mercedes was also never really competitive on the high-speed circuit of Monza. With the GP of Singapore, a completely different kind of circuit announces itself and at Mercedes they expect to be much more competitive.
“It looks like if we go to a low downforce circuit then Ferrari will be much more competitive. In Monza they seemed to outperform us by one and a half to two and a half tenths,” said Andrew Shovlin, Trackside Engineering Director at Mercedes. “That’s why I think our car will perform better in Singapore, on a circuit with maximum downforce.”
“Our performance on circuits with a lot of downforce, such as Barcelona, Budapest and even Zandvoort, our car performed well, on such circuits we had a fairly strong performance.”
“We hope we are able to be a bit faster and get back in a position to fight for podiums.”
