For most teams, the focus has now largely shifted to the car for next year. At Ferrari, too, the focus is increasingly shifting to 2024, but at Ferrari they continue to develop the SF-23 longer than expected, also with a view to next season.

The pain points of the current F1 car cannot be completely resolved with upgrades. The balance of the car is not very good and quite unpredictable, the SF-23 is very sensitive to changing conditions and the car performs very erratically. At Ferrari, they want to develop the SF-23 a little longer in order to arrive at a better car for 2024.

“I think there will be some updates here and there but it won’t be anything very big,” said Ferrari performance engineer Jock Clear at Monza last weekend. “We will see. That decision has not yet been finalized.”

We want to start next year with confidence. That always means that you also have to end the year strong.”

“If there are things that we think are useful for next year, it also makes sense to put them on the car so that we can test the parts before we can test them in February next year.”
