Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff will not be present at the Japanese GP. Wolff needs surgery and is replaced by our compatriot Jerome d’Ambrosio.
Recently, Toto Wolff said that Jerome d’Ambrosio had been appointed as his replacement should he be unable to attend a race weekend due to circumstances. We can count on one hand the number of times Toto Wolff has missed an F1 race, but in hindsight it seems to have been the harbinger of an announced absence.
After all, Toto Wolff will miss the Japanese GP because he has to undergo surgery on his knee. Also last year, Toto Wolff missed the GP of Japan as well as the GP of Brazil. Before that it was already since 2019 when he also missed the race in Brazil.
During the race weekend in Japan, Toto Wolff will be replaced by our compatriot Jerome d’Ambrosio. In his role as Driver Development Director, he also replaces Toto Wolff if he is unable to attend. There is a chance that Toto Wolff will miss the race in Qatar in addition to the Japanese GP
