According to Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur, the strong performance in Monza has shown that his team has taken a step forward. Not only his team, but also Carlos Sainz took an important step forward, according to Vasseur.
With a pole position and then a race in which Ferrari managed to resist despite Red Bull’s dominance, the Italian GP was certainly one of Ferrari’s best race weekends this season. Sainz finished third on the podium and team-mate Charles Leclerc finished shortly behind in fourth.
Positive signals according to Vasseur that are not only due to the progress made by Ferrari as a team, but also by Carlos Sainz as a driver.
“It’s the first time this season that we’ve been able to compete with Red Bull, but Red Bull’s speed was definitely better than ours,” said Vasseur. “But for much of the race we managed to be just as fast. It was definitely our best race weekend.”
“I am also happy for Carlos because I think he has taken a step forward. Not specifically during qualifying or the race but I would say in his preparation for the race weekend and from the first lap of the first practice session he was there. It’s a good lesson for the rest of the season.”
