After an intense battle with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, Sergio Perez managed to finish second on the podium. Perez was especially happy that he managed to finish second after a very difficult battle.
“It’s really nice to finish second, it’s been a great day for the team,” said Perez, who started the race from fifth place.
For second place, Perez mainly had to fight a tough battle with both Ferraris, which had a very high top speed on the straight and offered strong resistance when braking for the chicane.
“It was so hard to overtake,” Perez reflected on his battle with the Ferraris to take second place on the podium. “We lacked top speed on the straight. I was so close in the Parabolica but it was not enough.”
“The Ferraris were very fast on the straights which made it difficult to make up places. We had some intense fights, really hard to overtake, I gave it my all and it paid off.”
“Most of the time it was about 0.3 seconds. I knew 0.2 seconds gave me a chance but 0.3 seconds didn’t even come close. To overtake Charles and Carlos is incredible because I’ve been asking a lot from my tyres.”
“I had to put pressure on Charles and stay out of Carlos’ DRS. Then I was fighting with him and managed to overtake them both.”
