Max Verstappen was told during the closing stages of the Italian GP that he had to slow down due to a problem with the car. We did not immediately find out what the problem was, but Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has revealed what the problem was.
After Yuki Tsunoda gave up his power source during the formation lap of the GP of Italy, Max Verstappen also received a disturbing message during the final phase of the race. His race engineer Lambiase informed Verstappen that he had to slow down because there was a problem with the car.
Verstappen was told that message several times, but luckily Verstappen’s lead was big enough to slow down without losing the race. Verstappen was victorious but what was the problem he faced?
In conversation with the Italian edition of ‘Motorsport.com’, Helmut Marko said that Max Verstappen was confronted with a temperature that rose too high in the car. By driving slower, that temperature problem was partially solved. At the same time, according to Marko, it also ensured that Verstappen did not do everything he could to drive the fastest lap of the race.
“It was also good to slow him down. Max was determined to accelerate and get the fastest lap, which was something we couldn’t use at the time,” Marko refers to the very high temperature in the car.
