The new electric Mini Cooper (2023) finally has a decent range. The appearance is less striking. We see a familiar shape with some updated features.
After a blue electric Mini was spotted in Los Angeles in April 2023, the official images of the Mini Electric have now finally been released. We see the recognizable Mini silhouette. The headlights have the familiar oval shape but house two new horizontal light units. The front also looks smoother and less aggressive.

At the rear we spot a bigger change. The taillights are a lot smaller and triangular in shape. We do see the well-known Union Jack return. The lights are connected by a black bar, on which the model name is written in accordance with fashion. Of course, the exhaust pipe is missing from this EV.

Larger range of electric Mini
The main flaw of the old electric Mini has been addressed. The new entry-level model, the Cooper E (184 hp, 290 Nm), now has a battery pack of 40 kWh. Previously, the Mini Electric had to make do with 32.6 kWh, of which only 28.9 kWh was usable. The new Mini Cooper therefore comes a lot further than the 203 kilometers measured by us with the old one. Now you get 305 kilometers. The sprint from 0 to 100 is completed by the Mini Cooper E in 7.3 seconds.
You can go even further with the electric Mini Cooper SE. It comes with a battery pack of 54 kWh. That finally brings the range in line with the standard of things in the car world: 402 kilometers. The electric motor of this top version has an output of 218 hp and a torque of 330 Nm. This results in a 0-100 km/h time of 6.7 seconds.
The electric Mini still lags behind in another part. Fast charging is now possible with 75 kW (Mini Cooper E) or 95 kW (Mini Cooper SE). A minimum of 100 kW is actually the norm.
Collaboration between BMW and Great Wall
The Mini Cooper stands on a completely new platform developed by BMW in collaboration with the Chinese Great Wall. Production will start in November 2023, but we do not expect the new electric Mini to be in the showrooms in the Netherlands and Belgium in 2023.
