Today it was announced that Lewis Hamilton will race for the Mercedes F1 team for two years longer. The seven-time world champion receives an incredible salary for his extended stay at Mercedes and in Formula 1.
Months of negotiations preceded it, it wouldcoffeebe clarified. But it really took a long time for Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton to come to an agreement. Why it took so long, we have to guess, just like his salary, but that would have become known by now.
Lewis Hamilton would receive no less than 50 million British pounds per season for his two additional seasons at Mercedes, just over 58 million euros. So 116 million euros in two years’ time, an astronomical amount.
By signing with Mercedes, Hamilton will have driven a total of thirteen of his nineteen seasons in Formula 1 for Mercedes. At the end of his contract, Hamilton will be 40 years old.
Whether that will also be his ‘retirement date’ remains to be seen…
