The GP of the Netherlands at the Zandvoort circuit was an incredible spectacle. The rain, different strategies and incidents made for a spectacle and many overtaking maneuvers. The ‘Dutch GP’ even broke a record in terms of overtaking maneuvers.
Last Sunday, no fewer than 186 overtaking maneuvers took place. This set a new record, the old record was set during the GP of China in 2016 when 160 overtaking maneuvers took place during also changeable weather conditions.
It is important that overtaking maneuvers only mean ‘successful’ overtaking maneuvers that actually result in position gains. Position changes during the opening lap of the race, pit stops and lap laps do not count.
The F1 bosses will undoubtedly be happy with this statistic because they can say that the new generation of F1 cars can still be overtaken by a lot. It should be noted, of course, that the various heavy rain showers and red flag situations have seriously helped.
