Max Verstappen wants nothing more than to win his home race for the third time, but he says that this will not cause extra pressure.
Since the GP of the Netherlands has been back on the F1 calendar in 2021, it has always been home driver Max Verstappen who came out on top. The world champion would also like to continue his series of victories in 2023.
“To be honest I think it’s great, it doesn’t put any weight on my shoulders or extra pressure for me, just great that this is possible,” said Verstappen on Thursday. “I think 10 years ago no one even thought about a grand prix here and to be able to do that now is just fantastic and hopefully it will continue for a while.”
“For me it’s great to be here, to see all the fans and to drive such an incredible track.”
Even if Red Bull continues on its momentum in Zandvoort, Max Verstappen does not want to get ahead of the facts.
“Just trying to keep doing the same thing, that would be nice,” he said. “But of course you never know how to get back in after a break, also the track and the weather that is predicted is always a bit more difficult.”
“We’ll see, we have a good car, it’s again about doing everything we can to have a good weekend.”
Red Bull still has a hundred percent report in 2023 and if they can keep that up to the end, that would be unique in the sport, but Verstappen doesn’t want to think about that.
“Honestly, I don’t think we’re thinking about it too much because we just want to look ahead and bring the best possible car to the track,” he added. “I think everyone always tries to prepare that way and of course we want to win here, that’s no secret.”
