The biggest enemy of the electric car is the sky-high weight. Honda claims it’s close to a way to wipe out EVs’ excess pounds once and for all.
That’s what directors of the brand say in conversation with The Drive. According to the Japanese, it will not be long before they use the well-known solid-state battery in their models. The batteries have long been seen as the holy grail for electric cars, and so now seem to be going into mass production. Incidentally, Honda has not been the first with the battery, since Nio previously claimed to deliver the solid-state battery:

Half the weight
According to Honda CEO Jay Joseph, Honda is working hard on the development of the solid-state battery because larger batteries are not an option. Then electric cars will only become more expensive and heavier. According to the CEO, the solution for a greater EV range lies mainly in reducing weight.
Honda CEO Shinji Aoyama explains how much weight the solid-state battery can save: “Simply put, the energy density of batteries would roughly double. So to achieve the same energy with the same volume, about half the weight is needed.”
Other benefits
In addition to the weight savings, the solid-state battery offers some undeniable advantages. For example, solid-state batteries can charge faster than conventional lithium-ion batteries. This is because the batteries, due to their composition, can withstand temperature changes much better than lithium-ion batteries.
Another advantage of solid-state batteries is production time. Typical lithium-ion batteries, with their liquid electrolytes, require lengthy charging preparations before they can be placed in vehicles. Solid state batteries do not require such preparations and can be produced more quickly.
