There has been a price war between electric cars in China for some time now. The main players in this duel are Tesla and BYD. The latter is now also bringing the price war to the Netherlands. All BYD models have become cheaper, sometimes by thousands of euros at a time!
BYD says it does this to make electric driving possible for everyone. Later in the press release the real reason emerges: ‘to stay in line with market developments’. In other words, to stay in line with Tesla. This electric car brand was the first in the Netherlands to implement significant price reductions:
To keep the price competitive, BYD will tighten its prices from September 1, 2023. The Chinese brand does this for all its models.

BYD Dolphin 1000 euros reduced in price
Of Dolphin WORLD is a buddy electric hatchback Volkswagen ID.3. The Dolphin is available in four trim levels. The first two versions do not benefit from the price reduction. The entry-level model – the Active – can still be ordered from 29,990 euros. The model that comes next, the Boost, is again 3000 euros more expensive and therefore costs a minimum of 32,990 euros.
The discounts start with the Comfort. This EV with 204 hp and a 60.4 kWh battery has been reduced in price from 36,490 to 35,490 euros. The more luxurious Design version receives the same price reduction and goes from 37,990 to 36,990 euros. Both versions have a WLTP range of 427 kilometers and can fast charge up to 88 kW. In addition, all versions of the BYD Dolphin benefit from the SEPP grant. This further reduces the price by 2950 euros.
BYD Atto 3 more than 4000 euros cheaper
Of Atto 3 WORLD is a compact SUV and was on the price list for a minimum of 42,998 euros. For this money you bought an Atto 3 Comfort. If you do this from September 1, you will lose more than 4 grand less. The new starting price is 38,990 euros.
The Design equipment level is now also more than 4,000 euros cheaper (from 44,998 to 40,990 euros). Both the Comfort and the Design have an output of 204 hp and 310 Nm of torque. The range is 420 kilometers (WLTP). Buyers also benefit from the SEPP subsidy of 2950 euros with the BYD Atto 3.
BYD Han and Tang also cheaper
BYD’s top models are the THE WORLD of Han in BID Tongs. The Han is a spacious sedan in the premium segment, while the Tang is a seven-seat electric SUV. The price of the Han goes from 71,490 to 69,990 euros, a discount of 1,500 euros. The Tang can be ordered for the same price, but until now it cost 73,300 euros. The electric 7-seater SUV is no less than 3310 euros cheaper.
