The Volkswagen Multivan based on the T7 has been around for a while now. We still have to wait a while for the popular motorhome variant California. But our spy photographers have already spotted it!
The official world premiere of the concept version of the new Volkswagen T7 California is next weekend at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf. But prototypes of the production version are already on the road. Yes, even at the Nürburgring. This usually means that the market introduction is not very far away. We hope that the camping crockery on board can take a beating and that the test drivers have closed the refrigerator properly.

New California with two sliding doors
The photos show that the rear overhang of the camper version is longer than the regular Volkswagen Multivan. And of course the roof has also been raised. An important novelty for the new Volkswagen California is not visible, but it is certainly present: sliding doors on both sides.
To be able to use it optimally, you will of course also want an awning on each side. These were already drawn in the computer sketch of the California Concept. So you can bet that Volkswagen will indeed deliver it – a first for the California. We do wonder if this means that the T7 California will have the kitchen unit in the back as standard. Due to the extremely dark tinted side windows, even our photographer’s sharpest lens couldn’t reveal that.

Engines Volkswagen California T7
In all likelihood, the Volkswagen T7 California will be available with TDI and TSI engines, and also as a plug-in hybrid. Which engines will be offered on which export markets remains to be seen. It is even more uncertain whether there will ever be an ID.Buzz camper. It seems to die because it is too heavy.
