Our compatriot Jerome d’Ambrosio has been appointed Vice Team Principal at the Mercedes F1 team. That means d’Ambrosio replaces Toto Wolff if necessary.
Earlier this season, Jerome d’Ambrosio was appointed director of driver development at the Mercedes F1 team. In that position, d’Ambrosio could be seen in the Mercedes garage alongside Toto Wolff during many race weekends. Now it becomes clear why, because Jerome d’Ambrosio is the new vice team boss at Mercedes.
“When I’m absent during a race weekend, Jerome will replace me,” Toto Wolff told ‘Auto hebdo’. “It is true that in my 11 years as team principal it has only happened three times but it is a situation that you have to anticipate.”
“Now he has to build credibility in the team and in the paddock. He still has time, but if it happens that I am not there, he will replace me.”
Jerome d’Ambrosio once raced in Formula 1 himself in 2011 for the Marussia F1 team. In addition, he won three races in Formula E, the electric counterpart of Formula 1. D’Ambrosio previously worked for the Venturi Racing Formula E team with Susie Wolff, Toto Wolff’s wife.
