In recent weeks there have been more and more rumors that Nyck de Vries has to fear for his race seat at the AlphaTauri F1 team. De Vries says he is not surprised by the rumors about a possible loss of his race seat.
After several mistakes, crashes and generally underperforming, his very first ‘good impression’ as a substitute during last year’s Italian GP is not much left. Thanks to that substitution, Nyck de Vries now has his race seat at AlphaTauri, but the pressure on the shoulders of the Dutchman is increasing race weekend after race weekend.
Dr. Helmut Marko already said that Nyck de Vries has received a figurative ‘yellow card’. Nyck de Vries himself also realizes that things have to improve in the coming races and the rumors about possibly losing his race seat come as no surprise.
“It doesn’t come as a shock to me,” said Nyck de Vries in Monaco. “It’s normal, that’s how this world works, it’s always been that way, at Red Bull and in Formula 1.”
“I really believe there is no difference from earlier this season. You always have to perform, that’s how my career has always been.”
“As a driver you always have to fight to try to survive, you always have to perform to successfully advance your career. That’s how I’ve always been.”
“You may not believe me when I say it, but I honestly don’t think there’s more pressure right now than at any other time in my career.”
