In Australia, Lewis Hamilton has given more explanation about his split with physiotherapist Angela Cullen. Hamilton did that after a lot of speculation had arisen in recent weeks about the reason for the split with Cullen.
During the race weekend in Jeddah, Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff hinted that Lewis Hamilton may have made the decision, but in Melbourne Hamilton said Angela Cullen had made the decision because of the extremely demanding environment that is Formula 1.
“It is an incredibly challenging position that you are taking on. There’s a lot of traveling and you’re away from your family a lot,” Hamilton told Sky Sports F1 in Melbourne. “You grow closer together and become very close. When you dine, during your weekends, when you travel, usually you as a rider are together with the trainer or physio and maybe someone from your family. In that sense, it’s a very intimate environment and you become very good friends.”
“Angela is now living her own life. She has a lot of great ideas that she wants to do. We send each other almost every day.”
“We will still skydive together, we will always be part of each other’s lives. We stay connected!”
“Together we have endured difficult moments but also experienced very beautiful moments. I am grateful that our relationship is so good and I think we had one of the longest relationships in this sport, I am very grateful and I love her very much.”
