Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack has admitted he was thinking of possibly allowing Sebastian Vettel to make an F1 comeback as a replacement for the injured Lance Stroll.
Leading up to the start of the new F1 season, Lance Stroll was injured in a cycling accident. Stroll was therefore unable to participate in the three-day F1 test and Felipe Drugovich fell for Stroll. However, according to Krack, a possible comeback of Sebastian Vettel was also being considered.
“I was tempted to let him make a comeback, absolutely,” replied Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack when asked on the ‘F1 Nation podcast’ if he considered returning the four-time F1 champion.
“However, we didn’t do it because of the huge respect we have for Sebastian and because of his decision to retire from the sport. It wouldn’t have been right to ask him that.”
“We wanted to respect where he is now and didn’t want to put him in a difficult position.”
Krack did say during the podcast that Sebastian Vettel contacted the team after the recent successes to congratulate them on the podium places in the first two races of the new F1 season.
