Porsche, part of the Volkswagen Group, has confirmed that it will focus on racing classes other than Formula 1 for the time being. Nevertheless, it will continue to closely monitor developments in the sport.
Initially, a marriage seemed to be in the works between Red Bull and Porsche, but the cooperation expected by everyone from 2026 will not materialize, although there seemed to have been an oral agreement. In the end, Red Bull announced in September last year that negotiations with Porsche had finally broken down.
Since then, it has remained remarkably quiet about Porsche’s future plans with regard to Formula 1. It was in stark contrast to sister brand Audi, which announced a partnership with Sauber Motorsport. After all, the current Alfa Romeo Racing will become the Audi F1 works team from 2026. At Porsche, however, there seems to be no more F1 participation in the short term, Porsche itself confirmed in a statement.
“Motorsport will always be at the core of our brand identity,” said a statement from Porsche. “Formula 1 remains an interesting racing class for us.”
“We will continue to fight for victories in the WEC and IMSA, just like in Formula E. That is our tradition and our main focus is there.”
