Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has responded to speculation that Lewis Hamilton could possibly make the switch from Mercedes to Red Bull. Horner makes it clear that they are satisfied with the current driver duo at Red Bull.
Given the disappointing performance of Mercedes both last season and at the beginning of this season, speculation about a possible departure of Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes is increasing, especially given that his current contract expires at the end of this season.
“If we can’t show him that we can give him a good car for years to come then maybe he should look elsewhere,” Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff told Jeddah. “I don’t think it’s come to that yet, but I wouldn’t hold a grudge if it came to that in two years or so.”
Hamilton has been linked several times in the past to a possible switch to Ferrari, but Red Bull is also in the crosshairs in the event of a possible farewell to Mercedes. At Red Bull, however, team boss Christian Horner thinks it will just be speculation and rumours, he doesn’t see how they could give Hamilton a race seat.
“What Lewis has achieved in Formula 1 is beyond dispute,” said Horner. “But we are happy with the two drivers we have.”
“As a duo they are very committed to the team, not only for this season but also for next season. I don’t see how we can give Lewis a race seat.”
